Multiple networks in Vista

Posted by: gisha In: network l

I have had this annoying problem of getting Internet connection through my wired LAN adapter. I am on Windows Vista operating system and using Dell XPS laptop. I had not had this problem before, but recently, I cannot connect to the Internet and my network status detected multiple networks, usually after my computer wakes up, sometimes even at start up. There is just one Ethernet cord to this modem at home, but it says multiple networks, not just two, private and public, but sometimes three networks sharing.

My quick fix for this in order to connect to the Internet is to
1. Click on the “view status” and disable the adapter,
2. After all the detected networks are totally disconnected, I have to enable back my LAN adapter from the “manage network connections” task pane.

It works! But I have to do it every time it shows up again manually. If it is not the windows vista operating system, something incompatible has caused it to behave incorrectly when connecting to a network.

Searching for answers, an issue surfaced. Bonjour! Bonjour is a service discovery protocol by Apple, Inc. that detects other devices on your network. It is also installed on your PC along when you installed iTunes, Skype, Gizmo, Adobe products such as Photoshop CS2, Premiere Pro, Dreamweaver CS3, whether you like it or not. Trying to see if it solves this multiple networks problem, I have uninstalled Bonjour (see how to completely remove Bonjour service). True enough, my network connection only see one network and I am connected directly to the internet without this annoying multiple networks and blocking us from the world wide web from time to time.
